Iglesuela, Cantavieja & Mirambel

The villages of Iglesuela del Cid, Cantavieja, and Mirambel are located in the sparsely populated, rugged Maestrazgo region, characterized by its wild terrain and cold climate. Iglesuela del Cid, sitting at 1,227 meters in altitude, is a small town with around 414 inhabitants. It is divided by two small streams, and its central area contains the most significant buildings, including impressive medieval and later structures. Cantavieja is surrounded by ancient walls, with the main square, Plaza de Cristo Rey, serving as the heart of the town. Here, notable landmarks include a 16th-century palace that now serves as the town hall and a large 18th-century baroque church, adding to the historical richness of the village. Mirambel, the third village, is known for preserving its medieval perimeter and maintaining much of its original walls. The village's architecture remains untouched by modern development, making it a rare example of an 18th-19th century urban landscape. Collectively, these towns showcase the historical and architectural heritage of this lesser-known Spanish region.
