Real Colegio del Patriarca
The Real Colegio del Patriarca, also known as the Colegio del Corpus Christi, is a remarkable Renaissance structure occupying an entire city block, organized around a central cloister and containing a Latin-cross church with a single nave. The cloister is particularly striking, made of Carrara marble columns, while the church's interior is richly decorated with frescoes. In 1962, the complex was declared a national historical-artistic monument, and later in 2007, it was designated as a site of cultural interest. One of its most notable features is its collection of Flemish tapestries and an art gallery showcasing significant works, such as paintings by El Greco, Jan Gossaert, and Francisco Ribalta. Additionally, it holds a valuable historical manuscript, the "Tristia Christi" (The Agony of Christ) by Sir Thomas More, written during his imprisonment before his execution in 1535. This spiritual testament was saved by his daughter and brought to Spain with the assistance of Emperor Charles V.
