In the fifteenth century Valencia dressed half of Europe. The Velluters quarter held hundreds of silk looms, and the guild that ran them built itself a headquarters with a tiled floor you will not forget. The College of Silk Art is one of the city's great interiors - and most visitors walk straight past its door.
From there we cross the old quarter to the Torres de Quart, the western gate that faced Napoleon's artillery in 1808 and still wears the cannonball scars. Climb it and the whole old town lays itself out below you.
This is the walk for second-time visitors and anyone who wants the Valencia that guidebooks compress into a footnote.
