About this tour

South of Valencia where the mountains meet the sea, the Albarda gardens are a private labour of love opened to the public: fifty thousand square metres of Mediterranean planting - palms, roses, pergolas, and water - designed to prove that this coast's own flora can out-garden anything imported. It is the finest garden in the region and almost unknown.

From there we drop to the coast. Dénia, under its hilltop castle, is a fishing town with a serious food culture - its red prawn has its own festival. Xàbia keeps a Gothic old town of honey-coloured stone two minutes from some of the clearest coves on the coast.

It's a day of gardens, harbours, and old stone - unhurried, beautiful, and entirely off the coach-tour circuit.
